On the 30th of July 2001, the Associations
Council had a meeting with the Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Ouranios
Ioannides where he informed the Council about the proposal that was submitted
to him by a non profit making organisation regarding the donation of hardware
and software for the Cyprus education system. During the meeting the Minister
mentioned this started four months ago with the submission of a proposal by
this organisation named Mikis Zintilis and Ioannis Kyriakides Research and Development Ltd with certain terms. After its evaluation it was decided
that it was only a good offer (not a donation). Then the organisation replied
that their proposal was to be considered as a donation and to be based on the
Ministrys IT plants for the education system undertaking as well the support
and maintenance for the next ten years. Mr Ioannides also mentioned that this
proposal as such is also being examined by the Ministry of Finance and the Attorney
Generals Office. In the event that this proposal is accepted as valid and that
there is no evidence that the government shall bear any costs whatsoever in the
short-run, medium or long term, then he will proceed with a detailed appraisal
of the organisation in concern. Finally, Mr Ioannides pointed out that the
Association will be kept informed of any developments and that it will be
invited to a meeting in order to exchange views and opinions on the outcome.
